Fasilides

Fasilides, also known as Fasil, Basilide, or Basilides, was the Emperor of Ethiopia from 1632 until his death. He founded Gondar, the capital of the Ethiopian Empire, and led the Gondarine period. Fasilides expelled the Jesuits, made security agreements with neighboring Islamic sultanates, and was instrumental in fighting against Agaw rebels. He dealt with his son Dawit's rebellion by imprisoning him. Fasilides passed away and was laid to rest in a monastery on Daga Island in Lake Tana.
