Tewodros II of Ethiopia

Tewodros II served as the Emperor of Ethiopia from 1855 until his passing in 1868. He is remembered for his initiatives to restore a united Ethiopian state and improve its governance and religious institutions. Tewodros successfully reunited provinces, notably bringing Shewa under his authority. Despite facing ongoing resistance from nobles opposed to modernization, he was able to maintain a period of relative peace. To strengthen his rule, Tewodros implemented salaried officials and a professional army, enforced tax regulations, centralized political structures, and sought to reform the church, encountering opposition on certain policies.
