(Boxer) Segundo Mercado, a retired male boxer from Ecuador, competed at the 1988 Summer Olympics before transitioning to professional boxing as a middleweight. With a record of 18-2, he faced Bernard Hopkins for the IBF middleweight title in 1994, resulting in a controversial split draw. Moving up to the super-middleweight division, Mercado challenged Frankie Liles for the WBA title but was stopped in five rounds. Despite his continued efforts in the sport, Mercado retired in 2003 with a final record of 19-10-2.
