Sixto Durán Ballén, an Ecuadorian political figure and architect, held several key positions throughout his career. He served as Mayor of Quito from 1970 to 1978 and was a co-founder of the Social Christian Party in 1951. In 1991, he established the Republican Union Party and successfully ran for president in 1992. Durán Ballén also served as a congressman in 1984 and 1998. During his presidency, he focused on modernizing the Ecuadorian economy, resolving the Cenepa War, and left office in 1996 with positive ratings.
