In the 1930s, he founded the successful band, the Lecuona Cuban Boys, which showcased his compositions. He went on to record various albums, including solo piano pieces. After the Cuban Revolution, Lecuona relocated to the United States, where he continued to make notable contributions to music until his passing in 1963.
