He was part of different musical groups like Los Bocucos, Conjunto Sorpresa, Chepín y su Orquesta Oriental, and Mario Patterson. Despite retiring in 1991, Ferrer made a notable return to the music scene after collaborating with the Afro-Cuban All Stars and Buena Vista Social Club in 1996. He went on to tour worldwide and release several successful solo albums before his passing in 2005.
