(Cuban Fencer) Ramón Fonst Segundo, a Cuban fencer, made history as the first Cuban and Latin American Olympic medalist by winning gold in the Men's épée event at the 1900 Summer Olympics in Paris. He continued his success by claiming multiple gold medals at subsequent Olympics and Central American and Caribbean Games. Following his retirement from competition, Fonst held leadership positions in Cuban sports organizations, including serving as president of the National Olympic Committee and as an adviser for the Department of Physical Education and Sports until his passing in 1959.
