Roger Joseph Boscovich, a polymath from the Republic of Ragusa, was a physicist, astronomer, mathematician, philosopher, diplomat, poet, theologian, and Jesuit priest. He conducted his studies and published numerous works in Italy and France. Boscovich's contributions to science were remarkable, as he developed a precursor to atomic theory and advanced techniques in astronomy. Notably, he devised a geometric method to calculate a planet's equator and orbit, and in 1753, he confirmed the lack of an atmosphere on the Moon.
