Isabel Urcuyo de Somoza, a Costa Rican-born diplomat, served as the First Lady of Nicaragua from 1957 to 1963. She was recognized for her active participation in charitable efforts, specifically in programs benefitting children and social assistance initiatives. Urcuyo also played a significant role in promoting amicable relations between Nicaragua and various countries during her diplomatic visits to Mexico, the United States, Europe, and Japan. Following her husband's presidency, she continued her diplomatic career by serving as an honorary consul of Nicaragua in New York and as an ambassador to the United Nations.
