Becoming a grandmaster at the age of 13, he ranked as the 9th youngest in history. Wei achieved the title of the youngest player to reach a rating of 2700 at age 15. He competes for the Jiangsu club in the China Chess League and has secured victory in the Chinese Chess Championship three times.
