Gladys Marín was a prominent Chilean activist and political figure, known for her leadership within the Communist Party of Chile (PCCh). She served as Secretary-General of the PCCh from 1994 to 2002 before becoming its president until her passing. Marín was a vocal critic of General Augusto Pinochet, initiating the first lawsuit against him for human rights violations. She also made history as the youngest person elected to the Chilean Congress, the first woman to run for the country's presidency, and the sole female leader of a Chilean political party.
