(Influential Intellectual and Politician in the 'Khmer Rouge') Ieng Thirith held a prominent position as Minister of Social Affairs within the Khmer Rouge regime from October 1975 to its collapse in 1979. Although not part of the Standing Committee or Central Committee, she wielded considerable influence. Alongside her husband, Ieng Sary, the Minister of Foreign Affairs, she was detained by the ECCC in November 2007 on charges of genocide, war crimes, and crimes against humanity.
