Photisarath

Phothisarath was a devout ruler of the Lao kingdom of Lan Xang, known for promoting Buddhism and discouraging animism and Brahmanic practices. He prohibited spirit worship, replaced spirit shrines with temples, and issued decrees against animism. Phothisarath expanded his territory through military campaigns and alliances, including conflicts with the Ayutthaya Kingdom and forming alliances with Burma. He resided in Vientiane and maintained strong regional communications. Phothisarath's reign was characterized by warfare and alliances that would have long-lasting effects on the region's history.
