Ang Duong reigned as the King of Cambodia from 1848 until his passing in 1860. Ang Duong worked to form a sovereign alliance with colonial France to counteract Siamese and Vietnamese influence, which later paved the way for the French protectorate of Cambodia. His efforts were instrumental in shaping modern Cambodia and establishing the Houses of Norodom and Sisowath.
