Norodom of Cambodia

Description: (King of Cambodia (1860 - 1904))
Norodom reigned as the King of Cambodia for a record 43 years and 188 days, the longest in Cambodian history with an exact date record. In 1863, he signed a treaty with France, granting them control over Cambodia's foreign relations in exchange for personal protection. This treaty preserved Cambodian independence but also resulted in heightened French influence over internal affairs. Norodom's reign established the House of Norodom as the ruling royal house of Cambodia, a role it has maintained since 1941. Upon his death, he was succeeded by his half-brother, Sisowath.
