Ivan Asen I of Bulgaria ruled jointly with his brother, Peter II, from 1187/1188 to 1196. He successfully rebelled against the Byzantine Empire, declared himself Emperor of Bulgaria, and extended his authority over different regions. Asen conducted military operations, raided Byzantine territories, and consolidated his power in key areas such as Tarnovo and the Struma River. Despite obstacles, he emerged as a strong leader until his premature death in 1196.
