Omurtag of Bulgaria, also known as Murtag or Murtagon, was a Great Khan who ruled from 814 to 831. During his reign, he signed a lasting peace treaty with the Byzantine Empire and effectively managed challenges from the Frankish Empire. Omurtag also successfully addressed unrest among Slavic tribes and implemented administrative reforms to enhance the central government's efficiency. Known as "the Builder," he oversaw a notable period of architectural advancement in Bulgaria, with various construction initiatives improving the kingdom's infrastructure.
