Kotoōshū Katsunori, a former sumo wrestler of Bulgarian-Japanese descent, made his debut in 2002 and swiftly advanced to the top division by 2004. He reached the prestigious rank of ōzeki in 2005 and created history in 2008 as the first European sumo wrestler to claim an Emperor's Cup. Sustaining his ōzeki status for 47 consecutive tournaments, he acquired Japanese citizenship in 2014 to pursue coaching. In 2017, he founded his own training stable, Naruto, ushering in a new phase in his professional journey.
