Description:
(Former Tsar of Bulgaria)
Samuel of Bulgaria, the Tsar of the First Bulgarian Empire, was a renowned military leader who fiercely defended his realm's independence from the Byzantine Empire. Rising to prominence as a general under Emperor Roman I, he later co-ruled with him. Samuel orchestrated victorious military campaigns against the Byzantine forces, which resulted in the expansion of Bulgarian territory and the relocation of the capital to Ohrid. Despite enduring opposition from the Byzantines, Samuel's reign revitalized Bulgarian power in the Balkans until the Empire's decline following his passing.
