Wanderlei Silva is a mixed martial artist, best known for competing in the Japanese mixed martial arts (MMA) promotion company ‘Pride Fighting Championships’ (PRIDE). Nicknamed ‘The Axe Murderer,’ Silva is one of the most celebrated mixed martial artists in the history of ‘PRIDE’ as he holds the record for most wins, title defenses, knockouts, and longest winning streak. He won the 2003 ‘PRIDE Middleweight Grand Prix Tournament’ by defeating American mixed martial artist Quinton Jackson and also held the ‘PRIDE Middleweight Championship.’ Silva is also known for competing in the popular American MMA promotion company ‘Ultimate Fighting Championship’ (UFC). In 2000, he earned an opportunity to fight Tito Ortiz for the ‘UFC Light heavyweight Championship.’ In 2004, American MMA website ‘Sherdog’ named him ‘Fighter of the Year.’ He is currently signed with ‘Bellator MMA’ and ‘Rizin Fighting Federation.’
