She is credited with pioneering the turbo-folk genre through her early albums. Brena is considered a symbol of the former Yugoslavia and has referred to herself as "Yugo-nostalgic." Together with her husband and a friend, she established and managed Grand Production, the leading record label and production company in the Balkans, which was later sold for €30 million.
