Bartolina Sisa Vargas was an Aymaran woman and indigenous heroine recognized for her leadership in uprisings against Spanish rule in Charcas, part of the Viceroyalty of Peru and present-day Bolivia. Together with her husband Túpac Katari, she coordinated indigenous military camps and took part in the siege of La Paz.
