Sir Anthony van Dyck was a Flemish Baroque painter who was well-known for his works during the 17th century. He was interested in arts from childhood and began training in painting from the age of 10. Anthony Van Dyck was extremely gifted and he soon opened his own studio workshop with his friend. Later he moved to England and Paris to study under renowned painters and work for royal families. Anthony Van Dyck’s style of painting is known to have been influenced by the works of the artists Titian, Rubens, and Van Balen. A few of his well known paintings include ‘ Charles I ‘ (1635), ‘Cruxification’ (1622), ‘Saint Francis of Assisi in Ecstasy’ (1632), ‘Self-portrait an etching’ (1630), etc. Anthony Van Dyck’s paintings were characterized by their elegance and the use of colours. He also made use of symbolic attributes in his works. Though he specialized in portraiture, he was very interested in works involving religion and history.
