Eric Vanderaerden had a successful career as a road cyclist, excelling in time trials and winning notable races such as prologue time trials in the Vuelta a España and Tour de France, as well as stages in the Tour de France and monument races like the Tour of Flanders and Paris–Roubaix. He faced limitations in mountainous terrain but transitioned into team management roles post-retirement, eventually becoming a directeur sportif with the DFL-Cyclingnews-Litespeed team, where his son Michael also signed a contract.
