Josef "Pepi" Strobl is a former alpine skier from Austria who enjoyed a successful career in the World Cup circuit. He excelled in disciplines like downhill, giant slalom, Super G, and parallel slalom, securing notable victories. Strobl made headlines by clinching his first World Cup downhill victory with a high start number. By the 1996/7 season, he had become the top-ranked Austrian in the overall World Cup standings. Strobl later switched to representing Slovenia in the 2004/5 season due to challenges within the highly competitive Austrian skiing team. He eventually retired from professional skiing in 2006.
