Dominic Thiem is an Austrian tennis player who entered the ATP circuit early in his career. Following an impressive start in the juniors’ circuit with a World No. 2 ranking, Thiem turned professional in 2011. He reached the final of an ATP tournament only in 2014 and won his first title a year later. After winning his first title, he was identified by senior players and veteran journalists as a player to watch out for. Three ATP titles to his name in 2015 confirmed his graduation to the league populated by the best. In 2016, he registered wins against the likes of David Ferrer and Rafael Nadal and inched closer to the World Top 10 rankings. Year 2016 was perhaps the turnaround year for Thiem, who earned his first hardcourt title, and raced to seventh in the rankings. The following year, he registered wins against Djokovic and Federer and broke into the top 4 of the ATP rankings. Year 2018 was also rewarding for Theim as he reached the final of the French Open, his best result ever in a Major. Thiem’s powerful groundstrokes and single-handed backhand have earned him praises from all quarters, and he is often portended to have a glittering career ahead.
