Armin T. Wegner

Description: (Author)
Armin Theophil Wegner was a German soldier and medic in World War I, who later became a prolific author and human rights activist. He witnessed and documented the Armenian genocide during his time in the Ottoman Empire. Despite facing personal danger, Wegner spoke out against the antisemitic policies of the Nazi regime and even wrote a plea to Adolf Hitler on behalf of German Jews. Persecuted by the Nazis, he fled Germany and spent the rest of his life in Italy. Wegner's efforts against genocide were later honored, with Yad Vashem recognizing him as Righteous Among the Nations.
