Anastas Mikoyan

Description: (First Deputy Premier of the Soviet Union (1955 - 1964))

Anastas Mikoyan was an Armenian communist revolutionary and a member of the ‘Bolshevik’ faction of the ‘Russian Social Democratic Workers' Party.’ For over 4 decades, he was a highly influential Soviet statesman within the 'Communist Party’ of the Soviet Union (during the rule of Joseph Stalin and later Nikita S. Khrushchev). Mikoyan was a man of principles, but he was a shrewd politician, too. Under Stalin's leadership, he brought in several revolutionary changes related to foreign and domestic trade. Mikoyan also gained prominence in the international diplomatic scene. Regarded as one of the most contradictory yet skilled political figures, he was the only Soviet politician who had managed to hold high political positions even when there was a power struggle between the 'Central Committee' and the 'Politburo.' Mikoyan had been honored with the 'Order of Lenin' six times. Additionally, he had been decorated with honorary titles such as the 'Hero of Socialist Labor,' the 'Order of the October Revolution,' and the 'Order of the Red Banner.'
