(Writer) Ruy Duarte de Carvalho was a prominent Angolan author and filmmaker recognized for his extensive repertoire encompassing poetry, metafiction, and anthropology. His literary works predominantly centered on the Kuvale people of southern Angola, showcasing a blend of complexity and originality that has left a lasting impact on contemporary Portuguese literature. Influenced by the works of fellow Angolan writer José Luandino Vieira and Brazilian writer João Guimarães Rosa, Carvalho's novel "Desmedida" features intertextual references to Rosa's writings. His directorial films, created between 1975 and 1989, can be accessed for viewing on RDC Virtual. In 2023, Carvalho was posthumously honored with the "Order of Civil Merit, 1st Degree" by the president of Angola.
