Houari Boumediene

Houari Boumediene was a prominent Algerian military officer and politician who played a significant role in the country's government. He advanced within the National Liberation Front to eventually serve as Chairman of the Revolutionary Council and later as the second president of Algeria. Boumediene orchestrated a peaceful coup to depose President Ahmed Ben Bella, solidifying his authority and enacting various reforms, such as nationalizing the oil industry. He pursued Arab socialist and Pan-Arabist agendas, backing anti-colonial movements and freedom fighters across the Arab world and Africa. Boumediene's presidency concluded with his passing in 1978.
