Babrak Karmal was an Afghan politician and revolutionary. He is best remembered for his role as the General Secretary of the People's Democratic Party of Afghanistan from 27 December 1979 to 4 May 1986. Babrak Karmal also served as the Chairman of the Revolutionary Council and as the Chairman of the Council of Ministers between 1979 and 1986.
