Abdul Ahad Mohmand, an Afghan-German former aviator of the Afghan Air Force, made history as Afghanistan's first astronaut to travel to outer space. In 1988, he spent nine days aboard the Mir space station as part of the Soyuz TM-6 mission, setting multiple records. Notably, he became the first person to take the Quran to space and recite it there. Furthermore, his communication with his mother in Pashto marked the first time the language was spoken in space officially.
