(King of Afghanistan from 1926 to 1929) Ghazi Amanullah Khan ruled Afghanistan from 1919 to 1929 as Emir and later as King. He aimed to modernize the country through Western reforms but encountered difficulties, such as the rebellion led by Habibullah Kalakani. Amanullah stepped down in 1929 during the Afghan Civil War, seeking refuge in British India and Europe. Despite spending three decades in exile, he continued to play a role in Afghan politics. He died in Zurich, Switzerland in 1960 and was laid to rest in Jalalabad.
