In 1966, Yogita Bali got a offer from Kamal Amrohi to act in Pakeezah in the lead role. Meena Kumari had left the film and Kamal needed a replacement. Yogita Bali was 13 years old but looked older. Amrohi wanted to put her under 3 year contract that would help groom her to speak Urdu, learn dance etc. Yogita Bali agreed, but by then Amrohi patched up with Meena Kumari and was back in the film.
