1944 Red Star special correspondent Aleksey Semagin is tasked with finding his father, General Georgiy Semagin - operational pseudonym "Captain Maksimov", who disappeared behind enemy lines. General Semagin is involved in the development of the strategic operation "Bagration", preparations for which are being carried out in the strictest confidence. Aleksey ends up behind the front line in the reconnaissance group of Senior Lieutenant Pyotr Stepanov, where he meets the decisive and strong-willed Guard Senior Sergeant Olga Vasnetsova.
