The action takes place in September 1941. Unfairly convicted MUR investigator Zakhar is released from prison in order to organize the fight against crime, which increased with the beginning of the German invaders offensive on Moscow. The hero is tasked with heading the special investigations department and unraveling a tangle of mysterious crimes committed by Nazi collaborators. Once free, he fights a gang of saboteurs. Victory in this battle will not only be his contribution to the overall Victory, but will also allow him to free his wife, who was arrested with him, from prison. The leader of the sabotage group, Pavel Tursunov, also has his own goal - he is obsessed with personal revenge on Stalin, whom he blames for the death of his parents.

The heroic life of Dzhulbars, who became the most famous dog of the Great Patriotic War, is overgrown with legends: from awarding him the medal "For Military Merit" to Stalin's order to carry a seriously wounded dog at the Victory Parade on the Generalissimo's personal tunic. Through the life path of Dzhulbars, viewers will also see the story of the complex front-line love of his mentors: the mature, stern and unsociable commander of the dog detachment Alexander Mazover and the young, artistic and courageous dog breeder Dina Volkats.

The Germans decide to make them blood donors for the wounded soldiers, but the director manages to convince them that the kids should be taken to the village for a while in order to fatten them up a little. The partisans learn about the children who have appeared in the village and decide to organize an operation to save them. With great difficulty, they manage to transport the children to them. They need to be urgently evacuated to the mainland, but the detachment is surrounded: the only way out is to take them out by plane. Operation "Asterisk" begins to save the children.
