Summary Patterson Pepps' best friend is Raf, a giraffe. Raf and Patterson were born on the same day and grow up together as Patterson lives next to the zoo. When they are old enough to start school, they are very excited. On the first day, Patterson even stuff all kinds of plants into his backpack to make sure that Raf will have enough to eat.
