In an era of complete interconnectedness, the sum of the parts lead to a catastrophic whole. Location no longer matters, disaster can strike anywhere-and in November, it hits a luxury hotel in the pretty town of Heiligendeich. The participants, in combination, seem harmless at first glance. They are: Hagen Seibold, Eberhard and Gisela Mustermann, Kowalsky, his girlfriend Olga, and two priests. Only Nora Krüger is special-she's a TV star. But it won't benefit her over the course of the events that await her and the others. Because in the middle of the night, a motley crew arrives at the hotel for a late check-in. What follows is the fatal mixture of an unpredictable sum of parts. And because everything is connected to everything, no one can claim that they are not to blame for catastrophe.

O alvo do atentando é Amélia Castanho, cantora de boate escolhida para a tarefa da efeméride anual. Segundos antes de o coreto ir pelos ares, ela escuta do rádio do automóvel uma bizarra transmissão: o locutor, em transe, revela o plano que pretendia vitimá-la pela explosão onde ela deveria estar mas não estava! Assim começa Reis e Ratos. A partir daí, a narrativa quebrada em flashbacks nos traz de volta até a explosão do coreto e seu desfecho. A trama e suas situações conduzem o espectador pela atmosfera conspiratória das vésperas do Golpe Militar de 1964. A narrativa suja e delirante de Reis e Ratos ocorre numa certa antessala do cenário golpista. A história é contada através dos pontos de vista de um grupo de personagens de alguma forma ligados à direita. Esse grupo de pessoas é parte de um plano pra tirar o presidente do governo sem que o uso do dispositivo militar, tanto golpista quando legalista, precise ser empreendido. Two guys work in a shop's stockroom. Antero gets involved with Karita; when she gets pregnant, he wants her to get an abortion, but Karita, knowing about Antero's illegal actions at work, threatens to blackmail him to get him to form a family with her, and he agrees to keep the baby. Later, the boss finds out that one of his employees is stealing from the stock. Antero chooses to blame his co-worker to keep his job and provide the baby and Karita with a decent life.
