Ambros, an executive who works hard for a company in Barcelona, Spain, see how his best friend and companion at work dies because heart attack in the enterprise's garage. Since then, he begin to suffer several mental problems. Someday, he decides to leave to work forever. His wife, Cecilia, played by Fiorella Faltoyano, worried about the bankruptcy for her and their sons and daughters, tries to convince him to get the job again. However, Ambros, played by Juan Luis Galiardo,thinks it's better to see his pretty wife working as a prostitute than to return to his job in the company.

Admist a rebellion during the Ching Dynasty in ancient China, a nurse flees the palace with a young prince. As an adult, he convinces the daughter of the usurper to betray her father and to assist in restoring him as the rightful monarch.

During an informal visit in province Styria, where he represents the imperial Habsburg house, archduke Johann, brother of Austrian emperor Francis I, falls in love with Anna Plochl, the postmaster's equally common daughter. Johann and his arranged Wurtemberg royalty bride both decline a dynastic alliance advised by minister Metternich in favor of their private loves. Though there's a certain loneliness when you're awake in the dead of night, a bond also develops. Gem and Barry talk about zombies, love, and everything in between. Together they fight the loneliness that keeps them awake. In the end, they realize that even though you cannot cure insomnia, you just need someone to lean on until the sun comes up.
