Summary A tale of temptation through the ages: Eve offers Adam an apple from the Tree of Knowledge against the law of God. They become aware and ashamed of their nakedness and are expelled from the Garden of Eden. In the modern age, Robert, a laborer, is unable to afford marriage to Louise, with whom he is having an affair. One night, Robert rescues Elsa from the advances of a drunk, and in appreciation she invites him to spend the night. He is infatuated with her, but the next morning she rebuffs him, explaining that she is interested only in wealthy men. Anxious to make money quickly, Robert, who has all but forgotten Louise, involves himself with a mob of gangsters. After a few months of robbery and murder, he accumulates a great sum of money and returns to Elsa but finds that he no longer loves her. He locates Louise, who has given birth to his illegitimate son, receives her forgiveness, and marries her. He tries to quit the mob by framing them, but he is killed. View more details
