A young woman's past casts a dark shadow over her future happiness with the man who loves her; how much of her past should she tell him?

To meet the demand in New York City for young Puerto Rican prostitutes, a gang is organized to kidnap young women in San Juan and smuggle them into the United States. The racketeers take school girls from their homes, break down their moral resistance, and place them on the streets of New York as prostitutes. Pedro, one young man, incensed at the abuse of his teen-aged sister, determines to fight the gang and free her from white slavery.

After a forward containing a plea for uniform divorce laws throughout the United States to be enacted, and claiming that some 600,000 marriages are illegal, June Redding, the owner of a Western ranch, marries John Stark, a lawyer, in New York. Soon Stark sinks into dissipation and withdraws money from June's bank account to support his bad habits. Enraged by his neglect and dishonesty, June leaves him and, unable to secure a New York State divorce, obtains one in Reno. Later, she marries Wayne Hearne, a man of fine character, and they have a child. Stark accidentally happens upon a law defining the illegality of his divorce and blackmails June with accusations of bigamy. After Hearne learns of the situation and thrashes Stark, the matter is brought to court, but the Supreme Court decides in Stark's favor. In a moment of frenzy, Hearne tries to shoot Stark who, escaping the gunshot, falls in front of a passing automobile and is killed, leaving the Hearnes to continue their happy family life.

Innocent co-ed Dixie is unjustly expelled for unladylike activities by college chairman John Neil, who also happens to be the local District Attorney. Dixie uses an employment agency to unknowingly land a job with Neil's attorney son Bruce. A romance develops between the two until they go to meet the old man, who promptly forces Dixie to break up with Bruce because of her 'sordid' past. Bruce will have none of it, so to get him to drop her she attempts to get 'caught' in an innocent date with her employment agency contact, Haines. Unfortunately, Haines has different ideas about their encounter and will not take "no" for an answer so Dixie is forced to clock him with an urn, killing him. Dixie's trial for murder leads to a courtroom confrontation between father and son, with her fate resting in the balance.
