Let's Rock

Koni and Djimi, two childhood friends, flee their village after a tax collector's visit degenerates into a riot. They join the rebels in the bush, convinced that they can at last bring justice to their put-upon compatriots. In both the armed and ideological struggle, a gulf grows between the two friends. To bridge it, they must admit that the cure is often worse than the disease. Daresalam, the first Chadian feature film, is inspired by the story of Hissene Habre and Goukouni Weddeye, both past presidents of Chad.

The main characters of the film are a young woman, Jadwiga, who earns her living by feeding lice at the Institute, and a Dalek who escaped from the ghetto, and later his alleged sister, or rather his wife, Fryd, whom Jadwiga gave shelter in her apartment. The three heroes fight for life, for survival, and not only for their own lives, but also for Fryda's unborn child. However, they fail to do so, and a series of tragic events occur. Fryda, knowing that her Dalek husband will not reveal the truth about them to Jadwiga, who is in love with him, does it herself and leaves without saying goodbye to the fighting ghetto. Her husband follows her.

Two friends separated by a woman they both loved, and then by war as well: one of them joins partisans, the other Italian occupying forces.

This is August 1944. In France the times are uncertain and some places can be in turns liberated by the Allies and reclaimed by the Occupiers. The place is Nanteuil, a provincial town. The German troops present there are exhausted and leaderless and have offered the inhabitants to surrender. Exhilarated, the people from Nanteuil celebrate the event loudly and merrily but ...a bit prematurely. What they do not know is that a German officer has arrived and undertaken to galvanize the demoralized troops into resuming fighting...

1945: The last days of the war. In a remote mountain hut, Anton, a deserted SS man, and Hannah, a Jewish woman, meet. From distrust, feelings develop between the two. But the danger is not over yet. For the two, the war is far from over.
