In the city of Memphis, in a hall of the pharaoh's palace, Abbot Ramfis speaks to the young Radames. Pharaoh informs the army that Radames has been chosen as the Commander-in-Chief. Everyone leaves for the ceremony at the Vulcan Temple. Alone Aida, 'return with victory ...!' he says. On one side is his father and nation, on the other he has a lover. Surprised which one to wish for success, he found the remedy in prayer. Ramfis conducts the ceremony at the Vulcan Temple. The high priest gives the holy sword to Radames.
