The poor Melnik family lives in Zarasai region. Elder Mary parents struggle to send Marry to school but they did this anyway. During one, Mary is arrested, tortured, but she goes to death with her head down. In the final frame there are the surviving partisans, Elena with medals on a jacket, and a monument to Maryte is opened in Vilnius, against the background of Gediminas Castle.

Entertaining movie with melodious songs.
