Le carillon de minuit

The morning after his homecoming party from his last tour in Afghanistan, a Spanish special forces soldier wakes up beside the corpse of a young woman, who is not his fiancée. Desperate to find his girl he decides to look for her knowing that he could be accused of a murder that seems like the perfect setup.

Belgian girl Yvonne is married to Karl Von Krutz who admits to being a spy after war breaks out. U.S. Captain Strong assumes his identity and aborts a mission he is on to save the lives of Yvonne and the orphans for whom she cares. For this he must face court-martial.

The film tells the story of a Russian soldier captured by Afghan Mujahideen, and his successful escape.

Tom Whitney, well-connected but a social derelict because of his weakness for drink, is released from the draft because of an old football Injury, but a policeman persuades him that he can still do his bit in the shipyards. He takes a job in the yard owned by the man to whose daughter he was engaged in happier times. Three German propagandists seek to foment a strike to delay the work, and largely through Tom's efforts the plan goes amiss and the strike is called off. Rehabilitated by work, the launching of The Liberty is a forecast of Tom's own rebirth.

In Skoda's factories, where in 1914 they feverishly arm themselves, the foreman Kalina, the father of Pavel and Jan, works. Pavel is a supporter of the monarchy, Jan, on the other hand, defends the idea of national independence. Just before mobilization, Jan flees to Russia, where he joins the group of volunteer legionnaires "Czech Company" fighting against the Austro-Hungarian monarchy. Pavel enlists in the Austrian army. The brothers did not meet again until July 1917 in the battle of Zborov in Ukraine, which marked the successful breakthrough of the Austro-Hungarian front.
