While on vacation from college, William Bankinton is shipwrecked. His mind a blank, he is picked up by a derelict ship upon which there are only a lion and a stowaway named Broot. After Broot commits suicide, Bankinton and the lion are cast adrift upon the shores of Africa where they exist in a primitive state for several months. One day, when Nakhia, the daughter of the Bedouin chief Ali-Es Hadji is out riding, she is beset by danger. Bankinton comes to her rescue and gradually he and the girl fall in love. Ben Saada, the bandit chief, desires Nakhia, and tries to kidnap her. The lion and Bankinton once again come to her defense, and in the ensuing fight, Bankinton is struck on the head and his memory is restored. He then proposes to Nakhia, and the couple set sail to America where they are reunited with Bankinton's family.

Meera (Ramya) a singer and Madhava (Diganth) a lecturer get married. Meera sacrifices her dream of becoming a big singer to support her husband who dreams to be an IAS officer. She is forced to borrow money from a rowdy Raghava (Tilak), who wanted to marry her. Meera forges her husband's signature to get money from Raghava. Time flies by and Madhava becomes a sincere IAS officer targeting corrupt elements of the society. This brings him in direct conflict with Raghava, who wants to contest elections. It is payback time for Meera with consequences being too harsh for her to handle. How she faces everything and becomes a winner forms the rest of the story.

A destitute writer gets a chance to transform his family's fortunes with a new play, but his success is threatened by racism and addiction. The hero of the story is K, a writer, addict and father fighting to keep his family afloat in a Manchester homeless shelter. Police brutality, bureaucratic bias, the polite bigotry of the bourgeoisie - his days are fraught with exhausting battles and he finds solace in hard drugs. The council is ruthlessly moving families in the shelter to ghost towns in remote parts of the country and K must find a way keep his family in their beloved home town. With the support of his wife - who thinks he is clean - K wins a writing competition with a story about a Muslim teen who finds the courage to come out as gay when he discovers the music of George Michael. K signs a deal to turn his story into a musical and a big money advance puts his family on track for a brighter future. But K clashes with the producer, accusing him of pushing South Asian stereotypes and the deal collapses, taking K's path to stability with it. K's drug use spirals and he loses his family. He descends into despair and is left searching for meaning in the aftermath.
