Le strade di Trieste diventano teatro di una rapina ai danni della storica gioielleria Abete dove, in un conflitto a fuoco, perde la vita il figlio del titolare. Nicola Pinto (Alberto Gimignani), alla guida del furgone portavalori assaltato dai rapinatori, è al centro delle indagini: rimasto illeso nella sparatoria è un uomo con il vizio del videopoker e per questo con molti debiti. Mentre Salvatore (Luigi M. Burruano) sembra essere coinvolto più del dovuto nel caso della morte di Sangermano, il Commissario Vivaldi (Lando Buzzanca) e la sua ex-moglie Laura (Caterina Vertova) tornano a vivere insieme. Vivaldi interroga Yuri (Paolo Romio) sulle misteriose equazioni e fa conoscenza con Eva Ferrer (Elena Bouryka), tornata a Trieste quindici anni dopo il rapimento della sorella.
