I step through Moscow. Gennady Shpalikov

Summary Soviet cinema owns its "New wave" to a scriptwriter Gennady Shpalikov. He was a storyteller, a poet, a mystifier. He created his own life the way he created his heroes. He reinvented the city, reinvented the 60s, created women he loved. But often nothing was left after his love but the burned ground. He put all his forces into his creations. Nothing was left for the life itself. Only weakness. Films that were created by Shpalikov's scripts are the incontestable classic today. Yet, he was constantly and deliberately criticized and censored during his lifetime. After the stunning success of the film "I walk around Moscow" (1964), none of his scripts managed to find its way to a big screen from 1966 to 1971. He started to drink and committed suicide in November 1971. Shpalikov was only 37. This film is an attempt to glance behind the myth, to recollect separate peaces of memories and impressions left after Shpalikov's hurried and premature departure. View more details
