How Clarence Became Truly Normal

A doctor in a small town is being pursued by a wealthy young woman who just won't give up, even after he repeatedly rejects her advances. His main concern is taking care of the health of the people in his town; hers is just to have a good time. Complications ensue.

An American soldier, listed as Missing in Action in Vietnam since 1972, returns home after twenty years, to find quite the dysfunctional family.

The insistence of their tradesmen for payment on past due bills compels Paul, the Viscount De Sallure, and his young American wife Florence to invent imaginative measures in order to tap the principal amount of Florence's dowry. According to her father's will, only the interest of Florence's vast inheritance is available to her unless she is separated from her husband. Concocting a scheme by which the couple would divorce, acquire the money and then remarry, Paul pretends to have an affair with Mlle. Fifi. When Florence begins to suspect that her husband's affair is more than a ruse, however, it begins to look as if their divorce scheme will become a reality until Florence's wealthy mother, Mrs. Safford, intervenes and settles the couple's debts as well as their suspicions.

By the sea, they meet new people, including handsome men. Gaby meets Constant (Guillaume Cramoeisan), a young photographer. Though both women's lives are forever altered during the holiday, Gaby's new acquaintance will dramatically change the course of her life, in particular.

As a misanthropic, aging bartender cares for his estranged wife they begin to outgrow their cynicism while he forges a friendship with an impressionable young woman who is just discovering it.
