Summary A poor scholar named Lo Chih-Chiu rescues a swallow from three mischievous boys and frees it. The swallow transforms into a mystical female elf named Hsiao-Hseuh, who returns the good deed by rescuing Chih-Chiu from ruthless warlords. Hsiao-Hseuh confronts Chih-Chiu and reveals she is a servant of an evil witch queen that feeds on human blood. When the witch discovers Hsiao-Hseuh and Chih-Chiu's relationship, she nearly kills him, but spares his life on the condition that Hsiao-Hseuh and Chih-Chiu separate.
